Today was Strimming Day here at the Cocker-poo Palace. The day when the whipper snipper comes out and the newly named Freya Forest gets a right seeing to.
This is what it looked like before I started:
It’s been a bit manic without a fence to hold it back. Last year I put up a temporary chicken wire enclosure and that worked fairly well. This year I used three strands of wire to hold back the wildflowers. The wire worked up to a point. Now the wire has all but disappeared beneath the weight of the foliage.
The bottom strand of wire has become Freya’s hurdle. She stands on the path, steeling herself for the ‘off’ then leaps, using all four paws, to land safely amidst the plant life on the other side of the wire. The reason she’s so keen to go inside is because it’s where Emma had hidden one of the bones. It’s bigger than Freya’s head so she finds it quite difficult to move about.
I noticed, as I strimmed, that the bone had been moved, presumably by Emma, to a new hidey hole.
Trust me to pick the most humid day of the year to start the strimming. The sweat was pouring off me and mixing with the off cut shreds of plant material making me slowly resemble a traditional Green Man. I was surprised birds didn’t try and build nests out of me.
Eventually I managed to extricate the two garden chairs (that was an experiment that failed completely) then had to resort to using a branch lopper to cut back the plants too thick for the strimmer nylon. I then discovered that the passionflower was struggling to bloom beneath the onslaught of wildness. I spent a good amount of time unwinding it from the butterfly bush and attaching it to the fence where it should be a lot happier.
I only managed to strim half of Freya Forest and packed up at 5pm, more than ready for an early shower.
Given I also went to the gym this morning, I feel like I sweated out half my body weight today. I should be as slim as a super model…I’m not.
Given I’m off for an MRI tomorrow, I’ll finish the strimming on Wednesday.
Wow!! didn’t think it was as bad as that but then I left in Feb and the weeds are greedy things, still you did a good job and if you hadn’t been to the gym every day might not have done that much. So must be d oing you good cant wait to hear about the MRI.
