Today I built the return for the desk. I was surprised to discover than Nicktor didn’t know what a return was. But first of all I rang mum and dad.
And what a terrible son I am! Mum told me she’d had lots of phone calls and texts and emails all day. I said that was good, wondering why that should have happened today. When she called me “Gary Charles” I suddenly realised it was her birthday. I only get called Gary Charles when I’m in trouble.
Having apologised profusely, we had a lovely chat. I am now apologising publicly.
After our usual hour, I started building the return which I managed to finish by the end of the day. I had to finish by 5pm because Nicktor was picking me up at 6pm for a trip to the Rec to watch Aldershot play Barnet.
The evening started off in the Queen Victoria where Nicktor devoured an all day breakfast which would have fed a medium sized African village and we enjoyed a lively discussion over a couple of pints of a very tasty ale called Old Golden Hen. The conversation became even livelier when Bill joined us. Fortunately we enjoyed this part of the evening because the actual game was pretty dire.
The last Shot’s game I attended was pretty bad but this one was diabolical. We were clearly the stronger team – Barnet rarely looked threatening except when we made a mistake in defence. We had the game but couldn’t finish it off.
There were two highlights. Firstly when some wit on the slab called the referee a pixie (he WAS quite small compared to the players around him) and, secondly, the one, solitary goal that came late in the game.
At least we won, I suppose, but had Barnet been a stronger team, we would have been thrashed. As it was, this was our first home win of the season. We need to turn things around if we want to stay in the league.
Given that Mirinda was home, nursing her tracheitus which the doctor had diagnosed earlier in the day, there was no Nicktor Night and I waved goodbye as Nicktor drove off. The poodles were a bit confused.
You are forgiven my one and only had a lovely bunch
of flowers from Mitch and Natala but did not see them
as I was out at the hospital shame but rung him when
i got home.
love mum
