On the eve of Tiger Woods’ return to golf, I wonder. According to this morning’s news, we are to worship him because he is returning to world golf, doing the right thing by his sponsors and not having sex with anyone but his wife. But, I thought, isn’t this really praising him because he’s turned his back on his true feelings and embraced money in a strangle hold more powerful than the urges that naturally drive him? If that is true then what is more important, his desire for money or himself?
I heard the press conference from the guy from Augusta this morning and thought he was just a sanctimonious prig and, apparently, so are most of the people at the golf course. If I was Tiger Woods I’d say stuff them. If they want the kudos that comes with the world’s greatest golfer they should take him as he is. If not then, so what? It’s not like he NEEDS any more cash.
I think Tiger has just bowed down to a heavily moralistic society that wants everyone to be exactly the same as everyone else in order to justify a pathetic existence. And now he is just as pathetic.
