Things are heating up in Sweden. Saturday is Eurovision which is a huge thing here. I watched it in May 2021 when we were on Värmdö, and was infected with the joy and happiness even though I didn’t understand anything anyone said. I had already watched the Swedish finals of Melodifestivalen so felt I just had to cheer on the Swedish entrant. Sadly, I missed Melodifestivalen this year but I am definitely going to watch the finals from Liverpool.
The finals are in Liverpool because last year’s winners are in a state of war with a cowardly little man who rather enjoys sending his people off to die pointlessly. Needless to say, he probably won’t be watching Eurovision because, firstly it’s too much fun and, secondly, because his country won’t be performing in it.
And today, the Swedish Eurovision entry made it through to the final. Ireland didn’t make it but Loreen and her song Tattoo definitely did. She won Eurovision back in 2012, so it’s nice she was given another go. I think there may be lots of parties in lots of homes here in Sweden on Saturday night. Not here, though, because AirBnB doesn’t allow parties. It’ll be a party of two…or one after Mirinda gets bored.
Anyway, I was reminded about Eurovision in the regular newsletter sent out by The Local in which it was reported that Loreen is the odds on favourite to win the whole competition. That’s not just a Swedish claim either. Bookies from all over Europe are tipping her song to win.
It was while reading the article that I came across this gem of a quote:
“Käärijä is bringing the most insane mashup of almost like rap over a Rammstein track with a turbo slider you only really get on those boats between Helsinki and Stockholm. It’s an insane ‘only at Eurovision’ thing, but I have to admit, it works very well,” he says.

Now I’m really looking forward to seeing (and hearing) Käärijä as well. Mind you, I’d never heard of Rammstein before. For anyone who’s interested, it’s a German band. Rammstein has its own website here.
