The weather continues hot and humid. It’s unseasonably warm for this time of year. The average temperature should be in the late teens but, instead has been in the high twenties for the last week. According to Carol (on BBC weather) the temperatures should return to normal over the weekend.
Subsequent with the rise in temperature my suffering invariably increases. I really have little heat tolerance. And what’s the best thing to do when the weather is hot and humid? Why, cut the grass of course.
I should stress that it needed cutting and rain had been predicted for later in the day. Also, the grass was a proper manageable length rather than the nightmare it was last week so it only took me half an hour and one catcher load. Even so, by the end of it I was soaking wet and it hadn’t rained.
Actually we did have a sudden downpour just before lunch. I was going to suggest eating on the terrace but this idea was quickly soaked. Mind you, everything was dry in quite short order and we managed to have dinner out there. There is something incredibly civilised about eating on the terrace amid the nature of our garden.
Speaking of the garden, I did a bit of weeding as well as the mowing…until Mirinda told me to stop because the gardeners would be doing it on Monday.
Sitting in the Garden of One Thousand Yaps, pulling up weeds on a hot day was actually very pleasant. Having a shady bed like the Garden of One Thousand Yaps is perfect for days like today.
Flowers and insects are starting to appear, all happy and glorious, as the garden returns to something approaching a summery display.
After being prompted by my lovely wife, I hung up (or laid down) my gardening gloves and did something a little more useful…like the housework.
In a note of sad passing, Budgewoi Nana died this morning. She’s been in a bad way for some time so, if nothing else, it was a relief from pain. Mirinda is glad she saw her when we were in Sydney.
That’s the trouble with the weather over there you don.t know from day to the next. but the flowers are looking very pretty. Oh dear I am sorry to hear about Nana but at least she is out of pain and at peace and thank goodness Mirinda did go an see her. I still miss dad very much but keep telling my self the same thing he is out of pain. That foxglove is very weird flower dont think I have seen it before.
