There’s been some roadworks over the last little while which have affected our trip back from walks. It’s rare that a whole road is blocked off but, nevertheless, it has been.
Fortunately, there are three big roads into Farnham so it’s just a matter of taking a slightly different route. Today, however, we started off going the wrong way and had to turn off and head to Hankley from the wrong direction. We decided to park up at the back of the common and go around the opposite side to where we normally walk.
It’s amazing how different everything looks and it always amazes me when we see the MOD barracks because you can’t see them from our usual hill. I always think it’s a new film set.
The thing that never changes is the wide open space of the place. Even when there are a fair few people wandering in big groups, you rarely meet them. They are just slow moving dots in the distance, sometimes with dogs, sometimes with kids.
Of course, Emma chased a ball all the way around, Freya chased Emma and Day-z was just happy to walk between us. Well, except for once when she decided to run off into the woods for something. Emma noticed and went after her but Day-z quickly returned and took up her usual position between us and kept walking along as if nothing had happened. Emma was confused.
Yesterday, Emma’s tennis ball was useless by the time we returned to the car (it was disgusting and split almost in half) but today her ball survived. This marks the first time Mirinda has successfully completed a walk with a still usable/existing tennis ball. Emma and I think this is a step in the right direction.
We also came across a WWII gun emplacement, just off the path on the ridge. Mirinda was surprised I’d never seen it before. In my defence, we rarely walk that way and my memory isn’t…I was going to say ‘like it was’ but it’s never really been much chop. I’m happy to say I’ve just forgotten it was there.
Anyway, I snapped a couple of photos of it for Bob…for his PhD work on 20th Century War Structures in Britain.
And for reference…it’s just to the right of this photo, down the hill a bit.
All in all, it was a lovely walk and to show how lovely it was, all three dogs fell asleep on the back seat before we were out of the car park.
Oh, and the roast this week was lamb followed by rather oversized apple dumplings.
Lovely Sunday walk cant wait to join you all.
Love mum xx
It’s always interesting to see something from another perspective
