Blocked by cow

I had a bit of admin to do today but I did find time to Skype with mum and take Day-z for a lovely walk across Farnham heath.

My conversation with mum, concerned steam cleaners and the new Dyson vacuum cleaner – just the sort of conversation you’d expect between mother and son. We had a lovely, long chat before I had to go so Day-z could relieve herself. (I’ll be so glad when we’re back home so she can just take herself outside rather than me having to hitch her up to a lead every time.)

After lunch, we headed off, along the permissible bluebell path which now has absolutely no bluebells left, and across to the heath. Last week, I mentioned that three cows had appeared in one of the fields. They also scared Sophie on Sunday. Well, today there were a few more, though in a separate field. Between the fields is a wide path. The cows must know each other because they were all looking at each other across the divide.

The original three were still standing around under the trees, where I took their photo last week. The new cows were sitting down, cud chewing, strewn along a path heading across country and heather.

As we approached the gate that is at the start of the path they were lounging on, a big butt drew my immediate attention. One of the cows decided that, presented with a massive field of about 50 acres, the best spot to sit was up against the access gate. She even had her back to the path as if ignoring the fact that anyone else might want to use the gate.

If I can't see you, you don't exist.

We decided not to go through the gate (though, to be honest, it was tempting to open it outwards to see if the cow would tumble through) and wandered further up the hill to the next one.

We see an awful lot of planes flying over the heath. Today we had this flying above us. I’m pretty certain it’s a Chipmunk.

The Chipmunks were, basically, training aircraft for the Canadian and Royal Air Forces following WW2. There’s still quite a few around, occasionally flying across the sky.

Back at the cottage, we watched some football (the rather surprising Belgium v Algeria game) and finished off a few admin tasks. Then, for dinner, I watched the Mexico v Brazil game which promised to be a great tussle between the favourites to win the World Cup this year. Brazil, however, had other ideas and just didn’t show up. Mexico were happy with the 0-0 draw though the huge Brazilian crowd were less than pleased.
