Today we met Kate, the Architect. She spent a goodly time chatting to Mirinda about what we could do with a possible extension. We’re now very excited about the future prospects for our tiny little doll’s house.
A little more immediate is the fact that our tulips are finally starting to emerge from their wintry homes. Here’s some yellow ones.
The forget-me-nots have also sprung up all of a sudden, adding a splash of blue and violet to the hot border.
The newest tulips are still only buds but are showing the promise of some lovely colours to come.
Then, tonight we listened to four types of guitar…all at once.
A few weeks ago I spotted a poster for the Hampshire Guitar Orchestra (HAGO) concert. Obviously I told Mirinda about it and we bought tickets. The concert was tonight.
HAGO is a group of amateurs who play for pleasure, donating their takings to charity. While they may not get paid for their playing, they are still very good.
A guitar orchestra has only guitars in it. The HAGO has four types of guitar and a very funny front man who had us in stitches between numbers.
They started with Plink, Plank, Plunk, a wonderful little piece of frippery. Below is a Youtube video of some other guitar orchestra playing it.
The HAGO had only 14 guitars tonight while this guitar orchestra is massive but it still sounded as good. Given we were sitting in the front row, I’d venture to say it sounded better!
While HAGO were fantastic, we also had a few songs from the wonderful Jan Hartley. For two years, she played Christine in The Phantom of the Opera on the West End. She belted out a few arias, ably assisted by a pianist who stepped in with only three days to go when the regular accompanist was unable to make the performance.
All in all, a lovely night out in our local church, which I have to say, makes a fabulous venue. St Andrew’s isn’t one of those big, echoey kinds of churches where the sound meets itself coming back from the walls and makes little sense to the ears. The sound was excellent…though, to be fair, we were sitting in the middle section rather than one of the aisles.
Still, everyone seemed to have a thoroughly entertaining time apart from the young boy sitting at the end of our row. He wanted to win the massive box of chocolates in the raffle but only managed the rose bowl.
Dad and I thought that was lovely fancy Guitars making such a lovely sound we really enjoyed it.
love mum xx
Best concert ever. And I once saw sky
