When the bishop became king

Mum and Dad finished off the simnel cake I made for them before I went to NSW. I told them I’d make another one when I returned. Mum went out and bought the ingredients the next day. Today she forced me to make it. On the hottest day EVAH, I was chained to the cooker. Nice!

The day started off like normal. I went for my usual hazelnut latte. On the way down I dropped Mum’s books off at the library when I realised that the Black King had gone missing.

Someone stole the black king!

This oversized chess set, is outside the library. For some reason, they must have had a spare white bishop and someone crowned it.

Clever thinking

That was pretty much all that happened during my morning ritual of walk and coffee. It was then time to go to Sunland (which hasn’t been called Sunland for years). We were going to get a new PC for Mum and Dad.

I have finally admitted defeat with fixing the turning itself off, software bug. I thought it was fixed but then, as soon as I left the state, it started doing it again. We made the decision. We went to check out the PCs at Sunland.

I also bought a new suitcase because my horrid, florid one broke an axle on Monday and the wheels go round like a square now. We first tried a bag shop. The cheapest one was $129. We went to KMart. The one I bought was $49. Works for me.

There were no PCs suitable for our needs so we decided to try Dick Smith. It seems that no-one sells tower PCs anymore. Dick only had laptops. I spotted something I thought might work. It was a risk but it was a lot cheaper. We bought a Windows 8 upgrade. I spent the rest of the afternoon upgrading the PC and making the simnel cake.

After sweating through most of the day, I went for my usual afternoon stroll, followed by an ice cold beer down at the beach before heading back to the house.

The end of the day looked lovely through the mangroves during my evening stroll; the end of another perfect Queensland day.

The dying sun

  1. Ooh, I can almost taste the cake! Wow! I love those big chess games I have only seen one in my life and that was in my travels years ago; and now can’t for the life of me remember what country I was in!

A pity Josie won’t upgrade to an iPad or a Lap top? I know she loves her desk top. But she might enjoy a Lap Top with a mouse fitted? Still, you are a computer whiz so hopefully you get her up and running again.

I still have my desk top it’s 5 years old now; and I just had to have the operating system all re installed by Dell! It amazed me actually it was done by Dell in India (out sourcing – have you seen that great moved ‘outsourced’ I think it’s called really funny takes place in India) anyway 2 weeks of different Indians in Southern India taking over my computer through the Internet – they did it all from India – and now its good again. It was weird watching the computer screen as the person in India did his thing! Kind of eerie actually like a ghost at the helm! But turned out great.

I wish I could afford a Mac then I could do all my editing for my TV show at home – but don’t have a spare $1000 for a good Mac.

Well, I loved reading your blog – nice $49 suit case – that was a steal! Love to Mum and Dad – bet your Dad is enjoying your visit too – how is he? Love A. Jan xxxx PS: try and stay cool!
