This morning, as I headed into the woods, shopping trolley squeaking behind me, I was announced by a barking deer somewhere ahead. The sound remained just ahead of me. The deer responsible for alerting all the others, was hidden somewhere in the dark shadows of the woods. It was delightfully eerie.
The camera on my phone has made the scene brighter than it actually was. The darkness was far more encompassing, inviting and deep.
Anyway, I managed to emerge from the woods unscathed. And any deer around avoided me. The barking having worked perfectly.
Originally, I wasn’t going shopping today, but a sudden lack of coffee and dog food made it imperative.
The next time I ventured out, into the woods was shortly after lunch when we went for a gloomy wander around the mountain. The weather was a bit undecided all day. There had been brief sprinkles of wet all day, but nothing you’d seriously call rain.
Back at the house, I managed to add a few more dead soldiers to the Surrey in the Great War website.
And while we contented ourselves with walks and research, Mirinda was sat on a train heading south. Having reached Malmö, she changed trains for the run across the Öresund Bridge and into Copenhagen. Everything was smooth and easy, I’m glad to report.
Having dropped her bag at the hotel, she headed for Tivoli where she spent time among the giant pumpkins.
In the meanwhilst, back here in Quietsville, we slipped easily into the evening with Reading Hour. This is the normal state for Reading Hour.
I should also report that KSP landed safely in Winnipeg, ready for her Canadian visit.
