Last week, on the spur of the moment, I invited KSP and Jonas over for tea. That’s tea as in dinner rather than a cup of char and a biccy. I quickly decided on my main meal, making sure that salmon was acceptable to a family heavily involved in fishing, then spent the rest of the week planning the rest.
I came up with something that took in a number of different cuisines.
My bravery knew no bounds when it came to dessert.
The rather diverse menu meant I had another day in the kitchen apart from first thing when I headed up to ICA for last minute supplies. I started out in light rain and a ridiculously hot temperature (14°). I was momentarily tempted to drag my shorts back out of their winter hibernation.
While the morning was a bit dreary, the day improved out of sight with blue sky and bright sunshine in time for Mirinda to take a walk by the Baltic as I had a rather early Reading Hour.
By the way, I’m still reading The Museum of Innocence, which is excellent and long. I am up to the engagement party when the writer as the main character describes one party of guests who are the family of the author and the author himself. Nicely done, I say. Nothing like a bit of self mockery to create some humour.
My break from the kitchen was brief and I was soon preparing my dessert. As a rule, I don’t like cheesecake. I never have. Until I discovered Swedish cheesecake, that is. It doesn’t have the biscuit base which I dislike most. It also has a thin swipe of raspberry coulis across the top. It tastes nothing like any other cheesecake I’ve tried.
A little later, our guests arrived and a great night of chat, laughter and eating ensued.
After dinner, we adjourned to the lounge where we continued our chatting and laughter having completed the eating bit.
What a splendid night it was. Not forgetting the wonderful gift of cinnamon buns which Jonas had baked mere hours before arrival. They are happily waiting in the freezer for enjoyment later.
PS: Culturally the recipes were Sigara from Turkey, Cacik from Persia, Salmon from Australia and Ostkaka from Sweden. I think it all worked.
