Mistaken chicken

Today was another fun day at SFI. I realise that learning Swedish should be a serious business, but classes are so much better with a lot of laughter. The biggest laugh came when I was declared an ‘expert’ in Swedish. It certainly got the biggest laugh from me.

It came about after the class, individually, read out a piece from the text book. We have returned to the beginning of the text book for the new semester, and I feel a lot more confident because of it. As we went round the room, the readings managed to go from bad to worse. When it was my turn, the teacher declared: “Now Gary!

Naturally, I was far from perfect – about a million miles from perfect – but I was loud, booming and confident. It may have been because I wanted it to end. Anyway, as I finished, there was a resounding applause from the rest of the class. It was after this that I was called an expert.

Our newest student, Dina, only started this week, and it’s like I was when I attended my first few classes. If nothing else, today proved to me that I have, actually, learned something. The repetition is definitely helping.

Something I haven’t learned yet is the word for strips of chicken as opposed to breast fillets.

I had planned to make chicken schnitzel for dinner tonight but, when I opened the packet, I’d bought chicken strips instead. Plans were changed very quickly, and I made chicken stir-fry with cauli rice instead. Mirinda declared it her least favourite Chez Gaz meal.

When I asked her if she disliked it more than frittata, she hesitated before finally saying it was an even split. All I can say is that Jason ate it without any hesitation.
