Denis Norden died today. It feels like he’s been around forever. His voice at any rate. He was 96 so that probably explains it.
Radio 4 was full of his anecdotes. He was a very funny man but also told a good story.
When a comedian dies, the day is full of funny chat. It makes for a pleasant change when everything is normally so serious.
Not that my day was particularly serious. It was very windy and occasionally full of big, juicy raindrops. I managed to get wet a few times but the wind quickly dried me off. It was a refreshing, cobweb blowing away kind of day. In fact, the wind almost carried Freya away in the park.
In fact, a few times when I threw Emma’s ball, the wind grabbed it and hurled it back to me. She was quite confused and I had to keep dodging it on the return gusts.
While it rained, I’d work on the tax in the extension; while it stopped raining I’d work in the garden. On Monday, Andy didn’t quite finish the wild flower patch (which needs a new name) so I grabbed tools and gloves and headed in, under the hebe.
Hours later, I had a pile of weeds, banana tree leaves and white matting on the path and some beautifully turned earth beneath my hands. It was very rewarding.
I also re-spotted a few of the paving stones given they’d almost sunk into the ground, disappearing without trace. In doing this I came across quite a few weed roots that Andy had missed. They have now been eradicated.
These days I rarely spend a lot of time in the garden, gardening, so it made a change and was very restful. Well, between the showers anyway.
There were no showers when we were up the park. In fact, with the wind blowing clouds away to then return them a little later, it was actually very pleasant. The lack of rain had something to do with that as well.
The photo above doesn’t show the wind, obviously, so I’ve also included a short video just to show what it was like.
Wow that sounded quite spooky lol
