We had a lazy day today. Mirinda worked in the garden while I did various things in my office, including researching dead soldiers and booking for a solo three week investigative trip to Sweden. I probably had more fun.
The reason I’m going is to check out possible places we might want to live in, given we can’t afford to live where we stayed last year. It’s an adventure I am totally looking forward to. It feels like so long since I went on an adventure.
Given our decision not to take short haul flights, I searched for trains. I booked the first one, the Eurostar to Amsterdam and back, and, with the help of the Man in Seat 61, decided that I would be best to go direct to Copenhagen, then Stockholm. Actually, I managed to use vouchers for the Eurostar which were left over from our aborted trip to the Netherlands, planned for lockdown, 2020. So, basically, it was free.
I will be staying in Amsterdam and Copenhagen because the trains don’t match up but, hey, that just adds to the adventure. Given I’m travelling alone, I can sleep in hovels. Or back alleys.
I did do one other thing today. I made some walnut bread.
The idea was to use it to mop up the juices from the spicy lamb hotpot I made for dinner. It performed admirably.
There was nothing lazy about my day working in the garden! And I went for a glorious walk with the skylarks of crondall
