So, I’m standing in the bus queue when this guy comes up to me. He smiles.
HIM: Are you Australian?
ME: (Baffled) Err, yes.
HIM: Me too. Which bit?
ME: I’m from Sydney. You?
HIM: Do you know Adelaide at all?
ME: Not really. Been a few times. Lovely city.
HIM: I’m from near Glenelg.
ME: Oh, right. On the coast. Sounds lovely. (Pause) You’re long way from home.
HIM: You too.
We then went our separate ways on the bus – it was crowded – and we exchanged ‘Seeya’s’ when I left the bus. I was wearing a t-shirt with ‘Australia’ written across it and my bushie type hat but it’s a bit of a stretch to say I actually look Australian. Maybe it’s because I haven’t had a shave for…well a fair few weeks.
Whatever the reason, that was the highlight of the day really. Most of the rest of it was spent working through the remaining library items (our holdings are presently around 2,000) while Mirinda worked on her doctorate.
The weather was beautiful but started broiling up late in the day heralding the arrival of Storm Angus. The big Farnham Christmas light switch on was at 4:30 and it looked like they would have just beaten the rain.
In the kitchen I tried making berenjenas. After discovering this delicious Andalucian tapas dish, I’ve wanted to try making them. Unfortunately the honey wasn’t right – it needs to be molasses – but otherwise, I think they were pretty good for a first effort. I have enough eggplant to try again tomorrow.
For dinner I made a pasta free lasagna. Now that was delicious.
The mahonia is doing very well. It looks like it might just burst forth any day now.
Wow that was weird still, wearing Australia on your shirt I suppose it was a good guess, but you should have said born here though. What colour are the flowers that are trying hard to burst forth? and your dinner sounds great.
