Another day of rain, briefly interrupted by an hour of blue. It’s like February.
Most of the day, Mirinda spent working. She has an acquisition to work through which seems to get more complex with every turn of the printed page. Apparently it’s going to be like this for a while.
It wasn’t all work, though. She Skyped with Bob for a couple of hours in the morning and then, grabbing the moment when it came, we took the poodles around the park in the afternoon. Ignoring the work bit, it was pretty restful, finished off with roast lamb.
I’m not sure whether I’ve mentioned this before, but I’ve started roasting my potatoes in ghee rather than lard. It was accidental the first time – the shop at the end of our road doesn’t sell lard – but now it’s mandatory. Mirinda reckons ghee makes the best roast potatoes ever. I have to agree. The ghee not only makes them nice and crispy but they end up being really, really buttery as well.
Parsnips, on the other hand, I still roast in lard, otherwise their flavour is completely replaced. Mirinda would probably prefer that.
I also made two individual rice puddings, finished off with a few drops of rose water stirred through them. Perfect.
Oh, and Bob said I should light a fire. And I did. It made the lounge very toasty. Too hot for me but Mirinda liked it.
If I try that will have to not tell dad or will he notice the differance .
