Change is good

After a long time with the same blog theme, I have decided to make a change. I was never really happy with the ruled lines of the old one – I figured it made it hard to read, though I had no complaints – so have gone for the blog standard WordPress theme. I may also change the header image when I find something I prefer.

And speaking of change…there’s a new park at Canary Wharf. It seems to have sprung up over night. I had a text from Mirinda telling me to check it out tonight. (It’s on the way to the ferry dock.) It is extraordinary.

The amazing new park

I can’t remember what was there before (we don’t normally walk that way but I’m pretty sure it was just a path and concrete to the waters edge) and it’s almost as if it has just been wished into existence.

It all looks wonderful but the most amazing thing is that it all looks completely established, as if it’s been there for years. Even the roundabout (which, once upon a time, held a very annoying multi traffic light sculpture) has been transformed from a desolate nothingness to a wonderful world of green space, broken up by flowers and hedging.

More of the amazing new park

The massive trees are a testament to the garden workers and landscapers who created this marvel. Well done everyone, I say!

In fact, I only have one complaint and that’s the position. While there are lots of seats and places to relax, the road is horrendously busy, smelly with vehicular fumes and very noisy so I’m never likely to do more than simply walk through it. A pity because it looks beautiful.

I was in Canary Wharf because it was a Wednesday and Date Night in our weekly calendar. We went to the Lotus for the first time in ages. It didn’t disappoint. Food and service was superb. The only blot (and it’s very minor) was the fact that I could only drink lemonade. A very odd experience.

I was on the sad train home again but my new John Irving novel took me away instantly and the trip took no time at all.
