I was about to begin this post by writing that things have returned to normal, only to realise that ‘normal’ in the Red House is actually when we have guests staying. I feel like we’ve had guests more than not. In fact, while we’ve been living in the Red House for 49 days, we’ve had visitors for 29 of them. We now have a few days before Fiona arrives and the new normal can continue.
Mind you, while we’ve not had a lot of time alone, we’ve still managed to organise things around the house. For instance, I am now writing my blog posts in my office with a view of the garden. Twice now, while I’ve sat, thinking and staring into the green, a deer has popped by and peered in the window.
In fact, I spent a bit of time in my office today as Mirinda was in Stockholm learning some more Swedish. I shuffled around a few books and typed up a few old journal entries. It was very peaceful.
I also took the girls for a walk in the woods behind the house.
Obviously, we wound up atop Mount Trosa where we rested on a handy rock, admiring the view and resting our legs. Well, two of us did. Emma, of course, chased a stick for longer than I thought was strictly necessary.
The weather continues to be warm during the day. We did have a bit of rain before the sun came up but, as the day brightened, the wet went away and the blue drenched us in warmth.
Mirinda is still suffering from her mysterious malady, so we had soup for tea. Which was good, really. It meant I could use up all the bits and pieces of spare vegetables in the fridge. And there was a slight improvement in her taste bud reactions. She has been complaining of everything tasting over salty, even when there’s no salt in anything. Tonight, however, the soup didn’t taste salty. The spoon, however, tasted extra ‘metal-y’.
Hopefully she has turned a corner now and the cutlery will quickly return to normal.
