The Citroen Club of Sweden were out in force today. A whole bunch of their cars arrived in the car park at Emils Backe and set about buying coffee and cake and various other delights. We know because we were there, watching as we ate our own brunch and drank our own coffee/hot chocolate.
I was discussing with Mirinda the sad fact that I didn’t have a blog post title starting with the letter ‘X’. She suggested a few words but they all seemed a bit forced. I mean, I did consider Xenophobic but, apart from Emma having problems with all other dogs, couldn’t imagine how I would tie it to a day. Though she was a bit standoffish with Dallas, a Swedish Bichon.
But then, as we left, having supped on a delicious baguette (me) and croque monsieur (Mirinda), I noticed that a vintage car had parked up in the small car park. I then noticed there seemed to be a lot of Citroens parked alongside it. In fact, the vintage car was a very old Citroen and it provided me with a title.
The Citroen Club of Sweden has been going for quite a few years. Originally formed in 1958 there were a few ructions in the club until 1967 when the club attained its name. Now they all drive around, proudly displaying their stickers in the rear windows of their Citroens.
Still, I feel I should discuss Dallas. The bichon that Emma and Freya didn’t socialise with. He was a dog belonging to a man who owns one of the stilt houses at Emils Backen. He’d only moved in three weeks ago, so, almost as long a Trosa resident as us. We had a lovely long chat while the girls tried to ignore Dallas. He, on the other hand, was quite enamoured.
But, back to the cars…A Swedish club for Citreons. I find it all quite weird. It’s just a car. It’s not even Swedish. Still, the people from the cars all seemed jolly enough. In fact, one of them had a bit of a problem with his engine and there was suddenly a crowd of fellow members gathered around, offering advice. I guess that’s a benefit of membership. If you break down during a club day out, there’s generally a fellow member to help out.
By the by, it’s possibly not that surprising that the club turned up at Emils Backen given the fact that a small, little red Citroen is permanently parked outside the Tart Tartin.
What a wonderful way to start a Sunday. And a perfect, unforced blog post title.
Sadly emils backe will close soon for the winter. It’s become Sunday brunch for us 🙁 and that was a viennouse coffee not a hot chocolate. Obviously much healthier!
