Working from pub

We were chatting to Sally at the Holly Bush today regarding the first page of their menus. Before we went away, they had instituted a no laptops at lunchtime rule to stop people taking up space and not ordering anything. It seems, people are still taking the piss.

We were in the Holly Bush for brunch, ahead of Mirinda taking the girls on the Frensham Country Walk. Of course, I was left on a bench, overlooking the Frensham Cricket Club, waiting for the match to start.

I was really enjoying the cricket when Mirinda returned five minutes into the match. At least I managed some reading. I finished a particularly amazing chapter about Gertrude Bell, my new hero. I have no idea how she fitted so much into her relatively short life.

Anyway, there was not a lot of cricket for me apart from the first two overs. Still, it was enough for me to realise how much I miss my favourite sport.

The first ball of the second over caused the bowler to swear, quite loudly, for which he was warned by the umpire. I can’t really blame the bowler. The ball was fast, accurate and just straying down leg side. How the batter wasn’t out was definitely enough to swear about.

But, back to Sally at the Holly Bush. Apparently, people have taken Working From Home to mean Working From the Local. They take up as much room as possible, rarely buy anything, bring flasks of their own tea or coffee and eat their packed lunch in the toilet. They have Skype calls and spread themselves over the biggest tables.

Among other things, Sally says it puts off paying customers. And, when she politely tells them to stop taking up so much room and, perhaps, buy a cup of coffee, these people write bad reviews of the pub.

How can people be such arseholes?

By the way, the scaffolding in the above photograph is for the solar panels that are being installed on the roof of the pub.
