Today we met the couple who will be looking after our house while we’re away. Helen and Tony are currently looking for a house to buy in Farnham and thought a few months in our house would suit them perfectly. After chatting on Skype, we arranged for them to come over today to meet.
In order to welcome them into our home properly, I chose to make my first batch of mince pies today. Actually, Mirinda decided that I could start making them because it’s a week before Christmas. Obviously, I’d already made my mince.
There was a moment of confusion when I seemed to have miscounted them. I made 18 and gave Mirinda one and had a test one myself. I then sat for a bit of a rest with a coffee and fresh air. When I returned, there were only 15. I know, I counted them seven times to make sure. To my, not always reliable calculations, there should have been 16.
I was baffled, thinking I’d created some sort of mathematical trick. I hadn’t. Mirinda admitted to sneaking out and having a second one.
They were a great success with Mirinda, Helen and Tony. I managed to keep four to take to Starbucks tomorrow. When I posted them on Instagram, Sue replied with “See you tomorrow xx.” It was the kisses that did it.
Anyway, Helen and Tony were lovely and the four of us had a jolly couple of hours discussing, among other things, BMWs, our house quirks, skiing, dislocations and the horror that is Basingstoke. At one point I had to start dinner (lamb shanks) but, otherwise, we just chatted, ate mince pies and toured the house.
We arranged for them to come on the day we leave. We then bid them good night, merry Christmas and watched them out, into the rainy evening. Yes, after a terribly long time of dry, it started raining today.
After a long morning of tidying up and baking, then a couple of hours being entertaining, I collapsed at Reading Hour. I may have closed my eyes for a bit.
Bliss on a puppy.
You’re still smiling!
But can I say there was no sneaking! Who only has 1 mince pie?
