St Jacques at the lost boy

Talk about chalk and cheese. After yesterday’s non-stop, drenching rain, today was blue as blue could be with copious amounts of sun. The only clouds were some amazingly artistic efforts featuring fish scales and a sword. Okay, the sword was actually a contrail but still, it looked good.

It looked a bit Arthurian but with the stone replaced with the sky.

Whomsoever plucketh this sword from the sky shalt be the true king of England!

The clouds were not, though, the highlight of the day. There were two, actually. The first came via a van. It was left at our front door. I was expecting it and I hurriedly removed it from it’s cardboard protector.

I’d have to say that ever since buying Sabrina Ghayour’s first cookbook (Persiana) she has completely changed the way I cook. She has taught me the great tastes and magic of Persian cooking. She has also taught me a few kitchen hacks which I now use without even thinking about it. Her recipes, through her five books, are brilliant and remarkably easy. One might even say ‘Simple’.

I then spent a goodly amount of time looking at every delicious photo and planning many dinner parties based around them. If nothing else I really want to have a go at the pistachio and rosemary cake but can only bake when we have guests.

The other highlight was our newly traditional Thursday Date Night at a Local Restaurant. Originally I had tried to book Pulpo Negro but they are doing incredibly well and I had to book them for next week. So, tonight, we went to The Lost Boy and managed to sit outside.

Apart from the waitress forgetting our bread, oil and balsamic, everything was delicious. In fact, I ordered off the specials and both dishes were perfect. In particular the scallops.

The red sauce is chorizo oil, the crumbly bits are sausage and the smooshy looking goop is avocado and mango. My cured beef and Gorgonzola pizza was exceptional. Mirinda had scallops followed by a lamb dish which she said was lovely.

All in all, a lovely date night, made all the more pleasant by the weather allowing us to sit outside.
