Talking for laughs

I was recording a Haslemere & Liphook edition of the Talking Newspaper today so had to leave at 10am. Jackie was coming over to spend the day with mum and arrived just before I left.

All week I’ve had mum in training, teaching her how to catch the bus into town, where to get off it, how to find Elphicks, etc. I wasn’t confident, given her attention tends to stray more than not.

I was convinced I’d find the pair of them wandering lost and drenched in some back street. Either that or they’d wind up in Haslemere, completely confused.

As it turned out, Jackie drove and parked behind Sainsburys so all my fears came to nowt. As did my training.

They had a nice wander, not buying scissors in Elphicks because of the slack sales staff, buying a tea towel at the Paisley Cat because they love paying customers and lunching at Cote.

My session went very well though tinged with sadness. Firstly because Corinna, one of my favourite readers, was having her last session today and secondly because one of my team is a self centred pain in the arse whose only contribution to any discussion is about him.

He’s the only person I know who can make a conversation about a memorial service to some well thought of person in the community about him. Astoundingly unaware of the words coming out of his mouth.

Anyway, regardless of him, we had a very funny session and everyone else was entertained with copious laughs and tomfoolery. It was a jolly fitting sending off for Corinna who I’ll miss.

It was even sunny for my walk home which was an improvement over my walk into town in the rain.
