Sophie and Tom came over today for lunch. They’d been in London attending a Chinese New Year parade thing which Tom thoroughly enjoyed…especially the fire crackers. He insisted Sophie buy some so we could set them off in the back garden. It was a shame it didn’t stop raining! Poor Tom didn’t understand.
I made foamy chicken (Mirinda’s request) and a pear and almond tart. Both were well received (if I ignore Tom’s lack of eating habit).
I’m not sure if it was the Chinese new year celebrations, but Tom was very hyper today. He’s usually pretty full on but he’d stepped it up a gear today and dominated everything. He even gave us his rendition of Gangnam Style; both the song and the dance.
It was a pity about the weather because Mirinda and Sophie didn’t get their usual Tom-break seeing as they had to have coffee in the dining room while we sat in the lounge to watch Gnomeo and Juliet.
Normally, we’ll have a bit of movie watching interspersed with a bit of climbing all over Gary and jumping on his tummy but, because the adults were in the house, Tom kept running into the other room to annoy them.
That’s not to say he didn’t still jump all over me. We also watched most of the movie together – I watched it all except for the bits when his bum was between me and the TV.
I’ve read somewhere that Gnomeo and Juliet wasn’t very good but I thought it was excellent. The animation is very clever, the gnomes actually looking like garden ornaments. Emily Blunt (a favourite) voiced Juliet perfectly and the surprise appearance of Patrick Stewart as a statue of Shakespeare was hilarious.
Actually, I rather enjoyed all the subtle (and not so subtle) Shakespearean references throughout the film. It’s a good way to keep the adults interested. Though, in saying that, the adults would have to know a bit of Shakespeare to begin with so it may be seen as just a bit elitist and, dare I say it, intellectual.
Still, I thought it was very funny and enjoyable though I think Tom preferred the rough and tumble of real life. I’m not sure that Sophie agreed.
WOW glad you three were not like that.
