The other day, Nicoline suggested that we take some red currants from her garden and do something culinary with them. Mirinda popped over this afternoon and came back with a shoe box full of bright red berries.
I decided to go with a red currant sauce. I’d planned to make beef zrazy for dinner and thought the sauce would go very well with it. As things turned out this isn’t exactly what happened.
As well as picking currants and making sauce, we went into Nyköping for a couple of essential bins. Rubbish bins, that is. Not, as Jason insists on calling them, trash cans. (Why did Australia start using American English as it’s language source?)
Nyköping was all very bright and bustling, a far cry from the day we first visited. We popped into Espresso House for a spot of lunch before Jason went off exploring and we went to Clas Ohlson for the bins.
The bins have been a long time coming. We have been using a small, bathroom bin in the house while the stuga has had to put up with rubbish bags. There’s no reason for this. We just haven’t got round to it, I guess. Anyway, it was rectified today. And, while Jason roamed around Nyköpinghus, we purchased a couple of pedal bins.
We also visited the key cutter for a few sets of stuga keys, something else that we’ve been meaning to do.
Then, while Mirinda went to a clock shop to see about (finally) getting her watch fixed, I discovered a delightful little second hand shop where I bought a Swedish copy of Snow White which, I figured, would help with my Swedish reading. I know the story and it has pictures, so…
Speaking of pictures, here’s a portrait of Duke Karl who eventually became King Karl IX of Sweden. He was the youngest son of Gustav Vasa and he lived in Nyköping, having renovated his old man’s castle.
Eventually, we climbed back aboard the Tiguan and headed for home.
I’d already started cutting the grass earlier in the day and set to finishing the front garden. When the battery went flat, I headed into the kitchen only to discover that to make zrazy, I’d need about three hours. I didn’t have three hours. I swiftly changed course and we had steak and mushrooms instead.
Oh, and my red currant sauce was a bit of a hit. While I couldn’t eat it (way too sour for my delicate taste buds) Mirinda was enthused and Jason almost drank his straight from the bowl.
