Back from Uppsala

Mirinda and Fi returned from their short break in Uppsala yesterday. Having wandered around the King’s Mounds, visited the cathedral and walked around the many parks, they returned delighted with the place. Mirinda even ran into Joseph, who was attending a conference in their hotel.

They subsequently had dinner in Joseph’s new restaurant, Trattorian Sorellina, on the bank of the River Fyris. It was voted as excellent.

And, speaking of food, here we had an unexpected power outage while I was halfway through cooking dinner. A chap from Vattenfall (electricity supplier) walked down our drive and said he’d be cutting the power for about 20 minutes while he fitted a new smart meter. I quickly raced around the kitchen putting everything on hold, then turned a few other things off around the house.

Then everything went dark.

Well, not ‘everything’. Obviously, we had candles burning on the window sill and the fire was bright and warm.

After the power returned, Mirinda went out and had a chat with him. He was very happy to talk. Apparently he gets varying responses from homeowners, ranging from acceptance to downright rude refusal. To be fair, people are permitted to object and not have a smart meter, he said, but the old ones are being replaced by the new, EU standard models. Which work a lot better, he added.

Anyway, dinner was not very good as a result of the start, stop, starting again. As opposed to tonight, when I tried a new Spanish dish featuring cod, red peppers and aubergine. This was much better and, according to Mirinda, can be included on the regular Chez Gaz menu.

The only other thing I did yesterday was take the girls around Mount Trosa.

While pretty cloudy all day, it didn’t rain.
