It’s so good when things come together perfectly. Like today. When I awoke, all I had was a UK phone and no TV beyond stringing a cable betwixt laptop and screen. By the time I went to bed, I had a Swedish phone and the TV worked via a tiny little router supplied by the same people who sold me a phone contract. I couldn’t be happier.
It may seem quite simple but, I don’t care. We needed the Internet and Telia supplied it. I was worried that I’d have to take out a long term contract to cover the time before the fibre is attached but, no, a wonderful sales person at Telia sorted me out beautifully.
I have to say that, judging by my meagre dealings with both Telenor and Telia, Telia comes out streets ahead. I went into Stockholm to the Telia store more or less opposite Bastard Burgers and, after half an hour or so, came out with a phone, a router, a couple of sim cards and a free pair of cordless headphones. A bargain.
Of course, things didn’t start quite so gloriously. For a start, the train was delayed by half an hour. And it was quite foggy.
This stretched to 40 minutes by the time we reached Stockholm C. Not that it mattered to me. It’s not like I was on a schedule or anything. Mind you, it wasn’t that interesting, standing on Vagnhärad Station waiting for the delayed train.
But, eventually, I reached Stockholm and, obviously, had a latte at my favourite Fabrique outlet. I may also have had a sneaky cardamom bun but, then again, maybe not. At any rate, I enjoyed the tourists trying to decide what they wanted to have, in what language. It was quite amusing.
I watched in wonder as a Japanese woman devoured a baked item that seemed bigger than her head. And, her male companion wasn’t a slouch when it came to bun destruction. He finished off a cinnamon bun as if it was his last meal.
I then went to the wrong place, confusing a Tele2 with a Telia. But, eventually, I managed to find the right shop and, as I said, I came away with quite the booty. I then spent the time on the train, connected to the wifi, synch’ing my phones up. It was all very easy.
Back at home, I more or less bade Mirinda a farewell as she was off to the ballet. I spent the huge bulk of the afternoon and night sorting out my new Swedish phone, setting up the wifi in the house and moving a wardrobe from my small office, into the guest house.
By nightfall, I was happily watching the first, explosive episode of Mr Sunshine while, outside, everything was looking quite eerie.
All great fun. And I had a marvellous day. Plus, the photo above was taken with my new phone.
It does look spooky… like 2pm in December!
Well you might’ve had a cardamom bun … and I might’ve had an icecream… but maybe not
