Japan in Denmark

Tonight, for date night, we went to a wonderful new (for us) restaurant over at the new Crossrail station complex in Canary Wharf. It’s called Sticks ‘n Sushi and it is wonderful. Even down to the free Danish lessons.

Not that we started there. We first dropped into The Big Easy, an amazing American type bar where you can get such fine dining as lobster, mac and cheese. We were only there for a drink in the Rum Bar where, you wouldn’t believe it, all the drinks contain rum. Mirinda had Queen Anne’s Revenge which, as well as having copious amounts of various types of rum also boasted a big dollop of gelato. I had a Mai Tai which was delightfully strong.

I’m not that keen on rum but it sure makes a good cocktail ingredient. Our drinks went down very easily.

We were also entertained by a rocking country and western band of three – guitar and vocals, bass guitarist and drummer. I’d love to say who they were (if for no other reason than to advertise them…though I’d quite like to buy their album as well) but no one told me so I can’t. Sadly, because they were very good. I did, however, manage to get a photo so, maybe if someone recognises them, they could tell me…

While the cocktail and live entertainment were excellent, the same can’t be said for our waitress who took longer than completely necessary to return with our change. The staff at Sticks ‘n Sushi, on the other hand were excellent.

As soon as we entered we were treated like old friends (the kind you like) as the Goddess of the Floor showed us to our table. Having entertained ourselves with the extraordinary menu, we settled on a fantastic meal made up of all manner of Japanese titbits. Truly delicious and we will definitely be returning.

We then took a lovely long stroll back to the flat via West India Quay where the leftover Christmas lights looked lovely.

After dropping Mirinda back at the flat I made the long trip home. I do love Date Night.
