Tomorrow the guys are coming to build us a new fence so, today, I removed a few plants that have been happily growing up the old one.
While it was a somewhat arduous task, it was nothing compared to these chaps.
They are busy trimming back the trees outside the almshouses in Castle Street. I wouldn’t want the job of the guy up the tree.
Our plants were just spiky and/or with roots buried so deep they were still gripping bits of the Earth’s core as I managed to get them up. The award for the longest and toughest roots has to go to the honeysuckle. It was a Big Dig but I managed it in the end.
It’s been there quite a few years and it’s many branches have woven themselves around anything that has stood still for longer than a minute. I’ve managed to train quite a lot of it over the gazebo so I was, obviously, a bit sad to cut it all away. Still, hopefully it will grow again and even bigger and better this time…or we’ll get a new one.
By the end of play I had the various plants in plastic bags, liberally watered and protected, and lined up on the teak bench. This was, mainly, to keep the puppies off them.
While I slogged away, I was watched by a rather bemused Day-z.
Emma sat on the other chair for brief moments when not running down to the house and chatting with her boyfriend next door. Dave stuck his head over the fence at one stage and said it was his fault she was barking because he normally listens to Radio 4, which she doesn’t bark at but today he had Radio 2 on. He claimed she is clearly a very cultured dog. I said it’s because it’s all she gets in the house. That and musicals.
I actually managed to work up a sweat while I was working – the first time this year – and felt the need for a beer afterwards. I sat on the terrace in the fast approaching evening, enjoying a bottle of Spain’s best beer when I suddenly spotted the auricula theatre. I’d put it back after the raised beds and terrace had been finished.
Irritated, I went and found a screw driver and struggled with its removal. Then, finally, I stopped.
Yes I did notice the River’s bag thought you had two, You must have worked hard after you finished Skyping me.
