Almost the final push

After the gas leak horrors of yesterday, the plumbers arrived today and went a bit mad in the bathroom, nearly finishing it. There was a brief flap of concern over the whereabouts of the bathroom cabinet.

Matt asked me where it was. I told him I hadn’t seen it and, given it was huge, I’d have not missed it. He rang Farnham Bathrooms and was told it had been delivered with everything else. Matt straightened the woman out, saying that Jem had picked up the bits, assuring her that nothing had been delivered. She went to check the store room. It was there. Matt went straight up and collected it.

The bathroom cabinet is Mirinda’s crowning glory when it comes to the bathroom redesign. Forget the hand painted tiles, forget the huge chunk of glass that is the shower screen, forget, even, the water dance shower head. The cabinet is extraordinary. Beautiful design with a build to match. When Matt showed me how it worked (just before they left) he was full of praise for it, saying it was the best cabinet they’d ever installed.

Then there’s the exquisite heated towel rail which hangs from the wall all swirly and chrome.

Actually, Matt loves the bathroom. I think he’d move in if we let him.

They didn’t quite finish because the wall needs to be made good where it’s a bit crappy above the upstands then painted before they glue the upstand on properly. Presently it’s just held by a couple of dobs of silicone. Even so, it all looks marvellous.

Tim also turned up to power up the cabinet, making it shine like a beacon.

Meanwhile, out the back, Clive and Paul added screed to the steps, leaving a void of 20mm for the aggregate.

Paul raved about the terrace and the in/out tiles, which have been laid since his last visit. He loved it so much, he took photos. He was genuinely pleased to see me (he fussed over little Emma while Clive fussed over Day-z) and almost regretted saying goodbye when they’d finished. I think Clive will be laying the aggregate, so he’ll be back.

Because I’m at the house all the time, I don’t realise the changes wrought in a week but then Mirinda comes home and suddenly it’s all new again. It’s great seeing it through her eyes on a Friday night. And she loved the changes. Especially after I apologised for doubting her choice of the bathroom cabinet (I thought it was too big and elaborate).

Okay, it is big and it is elaborate but it works extremely well.
