More RN

After yesterday, we decided to have quite a lazy Sunday. I went over to the shops for food while Mirinda Skyped but, otherwise, the day was pretty quiet. Well, until Mirinda announced that she had to go to a two day conference in Leicester later in the week and needed a suitcase.

After lunch, I set off in search of luggage.

I figured it was a good opportunity to have a look at the destroyer parked up near South Quay. I thought it was the Richmond (a ship I’ve previously mentioned) so you can imagine my joy when I discovered it was actually HMS Montrose. She has just returned from a seven month tour in Syria, guarding the stockpile of chemical weapons prior to disposal.

Yesterday, on the Bulwark, our guide told us that they’re never sure where they’re going when they set off for a tour and have no idea how long they’ll be away. I imagine the Montrose crew were also in the dark until they arrived.

The Montrose was built in 1988 at the Yarrow yard on the Clyde. She still looks pretty impressive.

I also wandered into a film shoot just above Jubilee Gardens. Fortunately, they weren’t filming at the time. The director and cameraman were setting up a shot and a runner was telling the extras what to do. What fun.

I eventually found a suitcase covered in daisies and other flowers before returning to the flat. And that was it for the day.
