Mirinda had Swedish class in Stockholm today while I stayed home and accomplished a few tasks around the house. I also took the girls around the woods in a very mild blizzard. In fact, we had light snow falling most of the day though the temperature hovered above zero.
There were a few people skiing on the slope when we walked by. An old chap we have met a few times chatted to me about the sadness that is people no longer coming out to the snow because they are sat at home watching skiing on the TV. I said I thought that was really weird; that I’d be up there if I was capable. We, like two old wise men, shook our heads sadly as three teenagers swooshed around the bottom of the slope, one without poles.
One thing I am capable of, however, is attaching handrails. Though, while Roger Bannister may have managed a sub four minute mile, it took me a bit longer to instal two banisters to the house. I blame The Young Ones for that odd comparison.
Apart from the banister, I also stripped the netting from Tubby 24. It took most of the day for the tree to spread its branches and to look a little less like a Tuscan cypress and a bit more like Santa’s grotto. I had to trim the top a bit so the Madonna could ultimately fit but, other than that, Tubby was free to do its own thing, free at last.
One banister went up to the back/front door while the second was at the door to the stuga. I bought them both through Etsy. They are handmade in Italy and, I think, look terrific. And, as Mirinda said, they are very sturdy as well.
I also prepared the stuga for Denise’s imminent arrival.
Actually, there was a bit of confusion over Denise’s arrival. She’d told me she was arriving on December 10 which is tomorrow. I was all prepared and had planned to travel up to Stockholm to meet her. Fortunately, I checked her itinerary this afternoon. She actually arrives on December 11.
Stupid Gaz. Well, almost. Smart Gaz for checking.
