Accommodation stuff

There is always something a bit odd in AirBnB accommodation. Sometimes it’s a lack of a saucepan, or teaspoons. Or the vacuum cleaner doesn’t work, and the broom is inadequate. Other times it’s something a bit more critical. Now, take the place we’re staying in at the moment.

While the vacuum cleaner works and the kitchen has the essentials (apart from a baking tray), it lacks a kettle. We are using a saucepan. According to the landlord, if you use a kettle, it blows the fuses in the whole house.

The worst problem of all, though, is that the washing machine waste water leaks all over the laundry floor. I told our landlord but he shrugged it off, saying he knew about the problem and just tried different settings to alleviate the amount of flood water.

Fortunately, the washing machine isn’t in the kitchen, or bathroom. And the laundry floor is set lower than the rest of the house, so the water just pools. There’s also a conveniently placed mop and bucket.

Then there’s the keyless doors.

Neither of us are that keen on living in electronic houses, though I have to admit, I do love the Sonos. But doors that are dependent on strange machinations in order to get out of them are not our favourites. Sudden and swift egress should be easy, not complex.

Still, I guess it means guests can’t get keys copied or lose them.

One thing that is brilliant though, is the fire.

It’s new and very efficient. With one load of wood, it turns the lounge from freezing to frying in double quick time. And, because the house is well insulated, the heat is retained. No need for another load of wood. Perfect.

But, you don’t have to take my word for it. Ask Emma.
