Mirinda had a major problem getting home from Stockholm city today. She managed to get a bus from Odenplan to Solna Station okay but then it all went a bit awry. Too much traffic meant that the buses were not coming. Almost as fast as they were appearing on the indicator boards than they’d vanish again. Mirinda was stuck in the cold for an hour.
While I frantically tried to find alternatives (there isn’t any, really) I was surprised that such a thing could happen in a properly served capital city. How come cars get priority over buses in Stockholm, I wondered. Mirinda eventually found and took a taxi home.
The helpful driver told her that if you have to wait longer than 20 minutes for public transport and have to get a taxi home, SL will reimburse you the fare. This is very heartening, except you do need a personnummer. So there’s that.
Anyway, that blip aside, she had a lovely day learning the language while I lounged around the house and took the girls for a walk in the woods. It was my first walk here in Ekerö and it was delightfully devoid of people, full of snow and a jolly good walk.
Because there was no one but me around, the girls spent the whole time off lead, something we all enjoyed. And the snow wasn’t a problem. In fact, it was obvious how much it wasn’t a problem, given the girls would deliberately go hopping about in it. They subsequently returned home with snowballs all over their legs.
Apart from a bit of washing and Japanese TV, that was about it for my day. I was going to have my usual reading hour, but it was pushed to the back burner by Mirinda’s frantic requests for transport advice. She was cold, I was cosy. It wasn’t a tough decision.
A little earlier, Aldershot were beaten by Halifax 0-2 and Nicktor sent me a message reading: “Fuck me – I thought you were here!” He attached this photo.
I have to say, for a moment I thought I was there as well.
