Bye bye hollyhocks

I have written before about our lovely, butt-seed hollyhocks. They come up every year between us and Neighbour Dave’s drive and produce the most beautiful wall of flowers. They tower over our parked cars then tend to bend over and get caught in the wheel arches and doors.

Well, they won’t be doing any of that anymore.

Gradually, over time, the hollyhocks have grown outwards, pushing the sleepers away from the paving, creating a huge gap and a risk of collapse. The other week, I rang Des for a quote. He came up with the goods, so he headed over this morning to start work rectifying it all.

The pavers are also a bit wobbly, with some lifting and generally causing dips everywhere, so Des also suggested we get the whole thing relaid. I agreed though it was all relaid by Clive back in 2014. Not that I know how long these things are supposed to last.

It didn’t take long for it all to start looking much better. Neighbour Dave also, very helpfully, moved their car.

Mirinda was in town today for work, so she couldn’t be on hand. Which, of course, meant I was stuck in the house with the girls because I had to be available for questions or just to open the front door. Not that that was a problem, though I would have liked to do some garden work given the weather was perfect for it. Still…

By the end of the (working) day, it looked a lot better.

They’re back tomorrow morning for Phase 2, so Max will have to spend the night across the road.

I hope the milkman manages to navigate the cardboard tube in the morning.
