Well, following today’s test drive, it looks pretty certain we’ll be buying a new, five door Mini Cooper. There’s still some debate over the colour, the seats and the pop up glass screen but, it looks like the Mini is the one.
The day started icy cold and, basically, remained that way.
Mirinda went off to guitar class first thing while I went shopping. I decided to bake some pastry delights so, after the shops, I spent a long time in the kitchen, grinding and mixing. I made a load of filo triangles with a date and almond fill, glazed with honey and orange blossom water (photo on Flickr). While they were a bit fiddly and time consuming, they were delicious and a big winner.
In the interests of cooking new things, I made chicken in a pot for dinner. This is something I sing about all the time thanks to Rickie Lee Jones and Danny’s All Star Joint so figured it was about time I made it. It was another winner…particularly when washed down with a lovely bottle of red wine left over from Christmas.
My cooking was punctuated with another trip to Hindhead so Mirinda could sample the fun delights of driving a Mini Cooper.
I stayed in the car with the dogs, reading, dozing, freezing while she drove around Hampshire then worked out the finances for the perfect car for us. We’ve gone off the convertible, by the way, our present thinking being to have a decent car for us and renting a sporty job when we go away for the summer.
Eventually she returned and we took the dogs for a very cold walk along the ridge at the Devil’s Punchbowl. To say it was cold would be a massive understatement. Even I thought it was cold. Not that the actual temperature was particularly low but the wind chill made it feel positively Arctic.
Eventually we returned to our deliciously warm extension where Emma had the mud and foliage removed from her hair before I set about cooking dinner.
All in all, a lovely Saturday.
The pastry’s sound lovely yum! COLD I could do with cold it is 29 here at the moment ug .
