First thing this morning…well, 8am…Mirinda, Fi, Ina, Lauren and Jason drove up to Vagnhärad station in order to catch the early train into Stockholm. Today I’d booked them onto the final Stromma trip to Birka, the Viking Island. Normally, we’d have booked the dogs into the minder so I could go as well but Freya put a stop to that by starting her season.
So, I stayed home while they went gallivanting. And, like the generous people they are, they sent me photos of them having a wonderful time.
Thanks, Fi.
Here, at home, things were a lot more quiet and a lot less Viking. Actually, things weren’t THAT quiet. I watched an extraordinary Bollywood film called RRR. Lauren and Jason recommended it last night. I say ‘recommended’ although Lauren told me I HAD to see it. So, how could I possibly refuse?
The thing is, RRR is over three hours long so, having a day to myself meant I could stop and start it as I needed and still manage to finish before they returned. And I am so glad I did.
What an absolutely insane yet magnificent movie. The two male leads (Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao Jr. and Konidela Ram Charan) are fantastic. The special effects phenomenal and Ray Stevenson* a terrific baddie.
The one thing I found really interesting was the bad acting by the English (Stevenson aside). I don’t know if it was intentional, given they were the colonisers and the Indians were the hard done by natives, but it just sounded amateurish every time they started speaking. All the Indian actors were excellent. If it was intentional, it didn’t really work.
But that’s just a minor quibble in what was, for me, Lauren and Jason, a magnificent bit of cinema. Mind you, at three hours, I’m not sure I’ll ever watch it again.
We even had an interval during which I took the girls around the woods.
* In reading Ray Stevenson’s Wiki entry I discovered he died in May this year while filming in Italy. He was only in his 50’s. Such a terrible loss.
