Shield maiden sausages

A little over a year ago, I was in the audience for Pippi at the Circus, a show I’ll never forget. The producers decided to have another run this summer, so I bought a couple of tickets for tonight. Having already been, I gave Anna my ticket. She loved Pippi as a child and, it seems, loved Pippi tonight. She and Mirinda thoroughly enjoyed the show. I knew they would. How could they possibly help it?

But it’s not all just fun and games around here. Anna has been a huge help while she’s been staying with us. Her skill at box cutting is phenomenal. She wields a Stanley knife like an experienced ninja. And you can only imagine how good she is at carrying lightbulbs while jogging back from the ICA. She is also an expert forager, collecting wild blueberries like a native Swede.

Lisa, her mother, instructed us to put her to work, but Anna is an exceptional volunteer who rarely needs encouragement to get stuck in.

Anna has also come up with the idea of putting all our early guests to work. The main thrust of her idea is to have a board of photographs, depicting each guest’s contribution to the cause. Almost a Board of High Achievement and/or Shame.

While they were both in Stockholm, the puppies and I spent the day in and around the house, finding homes for stuff and throwing the ball for Emma. I also had to arrange for Landlord’s insurance for the house ahead of the tenants moving in. It took ages.

Speaking of organizational things, one big highlight of the day was receiving an email from the fibre people to say they’d be coming on September 20 to install the equipment ahead of the excavators. Hopefully, that’ll mean we have the Internet before Christmas, something that seemed unlikely a few days ago.

That was apart from first thing, when I went into Trosa Centrum to buy two bottles of Oz wine. We figured it would be a nice, small wedding gift for Joakim and Veronika tomorrow.

While in Trosa, I took the opportunity to pop into the deli. It’s not open that often but it sells the most amazing home-made sausages, the contents of which are hunted down by the Viking owner of the shop. She could easily have been a shield maiden once upon a TV series.

There was a funeral on at the church this morning and, walking back, I was suddenly surrounded by the friends and relatives of the recently deceased. They were returning from the service, all looking a bit sombre. One of the attendees, however, stood out. He was a jolly looking chap with a big, white, bushy beard. He spotted my hirsute features, recognised a fellow beardy and said hej hej with a big, beaming smile on his face.
