I slept in this morning. A very unusual and unexpected event. Even the girls slept in. It was actually light outside. I must have needed it. Mirinda reckons it was because of the exciting day I had yesterday. Obviously, Iron Boy made me sleepy. Or maybe it was the Sitting Giant.
Whatever the reason, it was a bit odd waking up in the light. Usually it’s black as pitch and has me fumbling around in the dark to get downstairs. Not so today.
As it turned out, it was a good thing. And not just because I needed the sleep. Being a Wednesday meant catching the bus into Tyresö Centrum and, had I woken up at my usual time, I’d have been too early for the shops to open. Maybe it was Verðandi guiding my subconscious.
Whatever the reason for my tardiness, I arrived at the centrum just before 10am which, coincidentally, is the time most of the shops open. Except ICA, of course. Like most supermarkets, it opens at 7am. Which seems a bit pointless to me given the Systembolaget doesn’t open for another three hours.
I headed straight for ICA which resembled a construction site.
There’s been work going on since we arrived and, today, they’d disconnected all the fruit and veg fridges, the produce put in various bins near the entrance. There was also a lot of noise as someone, somewhere, sounded like they were trying to break out of a concrete prison. With a jackhammer.
Shopping was not the delight it normally is, as I encountered obstructions as I went from aisle to aisle. It was not pleasant at all. Still, I managed to get almost everything I needed. Except cheese. The cheese cabinet was switched off and empty. Which was annoying. And I wasn’t alone in my annoyance. Other shoppers were just as disgruntled about the lack of essential cheese.
Anyway, after ICA I headed for the System (at least the lifts were working this week) then for a latte at Espresso House. I’d intended to have a quick latte but their cash register wasn’t working, so everyone was being instructed to load their app and order that way. Imagine six people all downloading and activating an app at the same time while the baristas watched.
Still, it worked and I soon had my coffee. Though, for some reason, I couldn’t order a large latte because they’d run out…according to the app. Very odd. Still, it saved me a bit of money, I guess.
Back at home, my arrival coincided with Mirinda’s return from walking the girls.
However, leaving my shopping adventures to one side, the biggest news today was that Freya finished her season. Three weeks to the day. No more nappies. No more dog avoidance. What a marvellous day.
