When Lisa and Rupert came over for lunch the other day, Lisa handed me a little bag of seeds. Attached to the bag was a label which, when turned over and opened up, held instructions on how to turn the little bag of seeds into crispbread. All you needed was water and an oven.
Today, I made the crispbread and, apart from being incredibly easy, it was delicious. Especially with a bit of cheese on top. And, of course, it is delightfully lo-carb.
The idea for the seed mix originated in Oz with Source Bulk Foods from Byron Bay. Their website is a joyful celebration of all that is good about food and food delivery. And there’s a few shops here, in the UK. (There’s one in Brighton – lucky Nicole and Luke, I say!)
The shops are the kind of places where you fill your own containers, so there’s no waste. And no plastic. Even the packet the seeds came in is completely compostable. My kind of place. Now, if we could only get one in Farnham I’d be well pleased.
In fact, there’s a new vacancy in the Borough if someone likes the idea.
I spotted the fact that the milliner has moved on an unexpected trip into town. I had to post Sarah’s iPhone charger to her. She’d left it behind following the management meeting on Tuesday. The shop is opposite the post office which is now in WH Smiths.
Obviously I popped into Starbucks where Charlotte (Sue’s daughter) was visiting. I haven’t seen her for over a year. It was a happy reunion.
Then, home to my kitchen.
As well as the crispbread, I made saffron lamb shanks for dinner, which takes over three hours. So, I was in the kitchen for quite a while today. Not that I’m complaining. I loved every minute of it. Particularly with the success of the crispbread.
I still can’t get over the simplicity and genius of the idea.
