I think Mirinda has turned a corner as far as her cold is concerned. I say ‘her cold’ but, of course, we all know it originated with the snotty-nosed kid that Liz is busy hunting down. Whose cold it originally was is irrelevant. Today Mirinda took herself out to see an accountant then, happy with the progress, and ignoring the fact that she’d locked me out of the house, went to Tre Små Rum for lunch.
Then, late in the day, she decided to take the girls for a walk. This was for two reasons. Firstly because she was feeling a lot better but, also because the day was so beautiful, it would have been a shame not to enjoy it properly.
So maybe the weather has also turned a corner.
Mind you, Beth from next door wasn’t convinced.
I saw her taking her daily constitutional in the woods this morning and stopped for a chat. She predicted rain and light snow for the afternoon. I agreed with her that our timings were, therefore, quite good, given it was mid-morning. She nodded and remarked that staying nice and cosy inside for the rest of the day was recommended.
I have no idea where Beth gets her weather predictions – weather bureau, newspaper, short piece of string out of the window, chicken bones – but, for today at least, they were entirely wrong. The day was gorgeous.
It was noticeable on the way into town where all the yoga ladies were happy and smiling in the sunshine as they walked to their class. Also, I saw more people in the Centrum than it has been usual to see over the cold and grey previous weeks. And they were almost all smiling.
Being a Wednesday, I was in the Centrum for food and booze. And a coffee on the way home.
Sadly, Visthuset was once more closed when I walked by, so I had my coffee at Mekka instead. Not that there’s anything wrong with Mekka except for the steps. There are three steps up into the café which, when you’re pulling a full, clinking trolley behind you, can be awkward.
Also, Mekka doesn’t have hazelnut syrup. Still, it’s a cosy little place and the man behind the counter was very cheerful. And, having the short break always sets me up for the walk back to the house.
When Mirinda returned from her walk, we sat in the glass room. It was around 5pm, and we were having a pre-dinner drink. We were bathed in warm sunshine, enjoying the fact that the winter appeared to have finally departed.
