Denmark has a new monarch as of today. Queen Margrethe stood down in favour of her son, Frederik, making him Frederik X. This makes his wife, Australian Mary Donaldson – they met in a pub in Sydney – Denmark’s new queen. Margrethe had reigned for 52 years. Her cousin is King Carl Gustaf of Sweden and the chances of him stepping down in favour of his very popular daughter Victoria are pretty slim, it seems. If anything, he’d want to beat Margrethe’s 52 years, not out.
It was all very royal in Denmark today and, if the photos are anything to go by, all rather jolly. Though a bit chilly.
Here, in Lymington, the day was very blue, which made a pleasant change, and it wasn’t particularly chilly. The graveyard looked rather picturesque when we walked through it.
I say ‘we’; it was me and the girls. Mirinda had driven off and had lunch with Sophie in their usual halfway pub, making sure to order the cauliflower cheese well ahead of time. And a roast. They always have a roast.
I was checking out how long it would take me to walk to the dog groomers, as that is what I will have to do tomorrow. I then circled back up the high street, noting on the way that there’s a tapas restaurant that welcomes dogs. Definitely one to try.
Other than that, our day was all a bit restful. Something I bet Frederik and Mary’s day certainly wasn’t. Mind you, neither was Mirinda’s. Just mine, really.
