Lucy on a horse, with candles

I have to say that I was a bit disappointed with tonight’s St Lucia parade through central Trosa. Not the event per se, I hasten to add. It was as deliciously bizarre as one could hope for. No, the bits that disappointed me were the battery operated candles and the fact that horses appeared to be in a hurry-go-round*.

The horse riders were so fast that every photo I took was blurry. The best I could get was a frame taken from a video instead.

I guess I can excuse the battery operated candles given the fact that the lead girl was seated on a horse with her hands pressed in prayer. I don’t think candle wax in her flowing locks would be very easy to extract.

The choir, that was at the other end of the centre, out the front of the visitor information centre, was excellent if a bit hard to hear from where we were stood on the bridge. I had aimed to be at that end but, by the time we reached town, the two corners were full. Besides, we had a much better view of the parade from the bridge.

I rather liked the little kids following the horses, riding hobby horses of their own.

All three of us agreed it was a wonderfully bizarre event. Up there with Half Term Mary and the Wobbly Jesus.

Once the parade (it went there and back) had gone and the singing finished, we headed up to the Stadshotell for a drink before returning through the woods. I’d made a hotpot earlier for us to warm ourselves up with.

A delightfully odd night out though I’m glad I saw the more, traditional candle wearing St Lucia yesterday.

* Like a merry-go-round only faster.
