Most of today we spent at Nicoline’s place, absorbing her wifi signal. Ostensibly, Mirinda was taking her to her gym class while I sat and waited at the small house we stayed in. Mirinda ended up taking part in the gym class which was given by Kristina (also known as KSP) and thoroughly enjoyed herself. I heard all about it from all three.
I was also invited to pick as many apples as I wanted. Nicoline has three big, abundant apple trees in her garden. I tried one from each tree and found them inedible. To my delicate and highly sensitive taste buds, they were furry and sour. I took one bite of each then, as Snow White should have done, threw them into the bush across the road.
That took care of any fruit picking I was going to do.
While I waited for my return trip, a steam roller (no longer running on steam) was busy going up and down the road outside the house, flattening the newly laid tar on what, until recently, was an unmade road.
Every time the big roller went by the house, the walls shook and the floors rumbled. The roller would get to the junction beyond the house, then stop. The driver would then revolve his chair through 180°, turn the engine back on and go back from where he’d started. Sure beats doing a three point turn.
Nicoline was going into Stockholm for a couple of days so Mirinda dropped her off before coming back to the house. Of course, stupid Gaz had forgotten to pack the tea and coffee stuff. Though, to be fair, stupid Gaz thought we’d only be staying an hour or so.
Anyway, as a consequence of stupid Gaz’s decision, we decided to pop into Trosa for a coffee at the new gelato place. We may also have had an ice cream. While we sat there, we chatted to three people we know. It is really starting to feel like a community.
First, Nicoline was there, waiting for her bus then the maître d’ from Bowman’s stopped on his way to work then, finally, Kristina sat and chatted about her house in the woods and lack of broadband. We commiserated with her on the latter.
It was so lovely sitting at an outside table. Mirinda said it felt just like France. That could have been the blue sky, sunshine and general increase in temperature. In fact, today felt like a change to a summer we didn’t really have. The temperature has been going steadily down for so long, I figured we were already heading into an Autumnal downturn. That maybe, but not today.
In fact, after dropping the girls off at home (and feeding them) Mirinda decided to go and have a sunset swim at the camping ground beach on the island beyond the World’s End.
The perfect end to a perfect day. Even the less than perfect stupid Gaz moment served as a perfect opportunity to meet up with people in Trosa.
