All things familiar

Lisa Marie Presley died of a heart attack today. She was only 54. Lots of people were claiming it was because she was fully vaccinated. It was then pointed out that both her father and grandmother, Gladys Love Presley, also died of heart attacks while still relatively young. So there’s that.

Away from Hollywood, we enjoyed waking up in, what will be, our home for the next two months.

Set high up amid a flurry of other big houses, sits our traditional falu red, three storey accommodation.

It doesn’t look so big from the photo but it is, inside. The three floors consist of a basement, where the laundry and workshop are, the main living area with the smallest TV room in the world, and, on the top are the bedrooms and a creative space.

It’s also very close to a lake, which Mirinda walked down to with the girls, first thing.

While the house is very comfortable, if suffering from stuffocation, I have to give top marks to the kitchen. Apart from the wooden tops, it is brilliant. Lots of prep space, an amazing gas hob and twin ovens. There’s a dishwasher and lots of storage, as well as a massive fridge and freezer.

I’ve already cooked two meals in it, and I’m looking forward to many more.

Tonight I made aubergine and chorizo stew, something I’ve only made once (during Lockdown) but now wonder why I haven’t made it more often. It was delicious. Though it could have done with some cous cous to soak up the juices. Or some lo-carb bread.

But first, I had to buy the ingredients, so we headed off to Tyresö Centrum for a very happy trip down memory lane.

The first thing I noticed was the lack of masks, the second was the lack of signs posted outside businesses indicating the number of people allowed inside at a time and, the third thing I noticed was the lack of arrows indicating which side you should walk. I’m so glad I got to see it in normal times.

Of course, the shops are all the same, except for a few small ones. I had to get a trolley, so Clas Ohlson was first on my list. Then the ICA, followed by the very important Systembolaget.

Trolley adequately stuffed full of goodies, I collected Mirinda from the café (she’d gone for a walk around the centre then waited for me) and we headed back to the house.

There really is comfort in returning to somewhere familiar. Well, as long as it hasn’t been decades since your last visit. When I popped down to Penrith last September, I felt very little comfort in the fact that the only familiar bit was the Red Cow.

Tyresö Centrum was extra special because the Christmas decorations were still up.
