Lots of driving

The weather turned decidedly awful today. From the early hours of the morning, there was rain and very strong winds. I know because the wind woke Emma up and she decided I needed to know about it.

By the time I woke up again and went downstairs, the weather had improved to the point that there was no rain. I figured this was good as I had to repack the car before we could leave the lovely little yellow house near the beach.

Packing was another test of my ability to fill small spaces with big objects. Actually, I reckon I’d have made an excellent longshoreman, back in the pre-container days when every nook and cranny needed to be filled.

I managed to fit everything in and we left just after midday. The accommodation was very civilised with the check out time. It’s not often you can stay till midday.

And so we hit the road. We took the scenic route, driving along beautifully smooth and mostly empty roads until we intersected with the E4. It was then just a drive north until we found Skillingaryd and our hotel for the night.

A big, scary sign on the door said I should empty the car because there’s thieves about.

This was very annoying as I’d packed Max in such a way as to only require two bags to be removed. However, not wanting a repeat of what happened in The Lakes so long ago, I emptied the car.

The hotel is a bit odd because while they advertise that they have a restaurant, it’s actually across the road. And, while the hotel receptionist makes and delivers sandwiches to the restaurant, she can’t sell you any from reception.

She could sell us a beer, a couple of ice creams and some crisps though so it’s not like we starved. The hotel also supplied the dogs with some dry treats, which they were very pleased with.

It’s excellent finding a hotel that accepts dogs. This one even supplies a dog bed which there’s no way our two would bother using. Still, it’s a nice touch.

For dinner we popped into the restaurant over the road (there doesn’t appear to be anywhere else) and had köttbullar (Swedish meatballs). I was a bit surprised to find they were served with gravy while Mirinda assured me they were not as good as mine. Such a good and loyal wife I have.

Tomorrow will be our final travelling day as we head for our home for next two months.
