Picking up the post

We had lunch at the Holly Bush today. While eating at the Holly Bush is nothing particularly new, it is rare we have lunch rather than brunch. I’m not being picky because there are separate menus. And the lunch menu has my new favourite meal: pan fried haddock wrapped in bacon with new potatoes, green beans, mushrooms and chorizo. It was bloody brilliant.

I’m going to have to try this at Chez Gaz, sans spuds of course.

Mirinda had a naked burger but, given we are down to only one meal a day and our stomachs appear to have shrunk somewhat, she couldn’t finish it. As she said, it’s a far cry from the past when we’d happily eat at least three meals a day with various cakes and pastries thrown in between them. Now we’re lucky to finish lunch.

Given our OMAD habit, it also makes dinner at Chez Gaz very simple. We had a herring and cheese plate and a glass of schnapps. Actually, I had the schnapps; Mirinda had gin.

Before we had lunch, I popped over to the cottage to meet with Len to discuss possibly moving a soakaway. It was an informative meeting and he’s going to send me a quote next week. Meeting Len, I realised how at home I am with builders and tradesmen. Obviously it’s a familial thing given I grew up surrounded by electricians, bricklayers, sheet metal workers and plumbers.

Anyway, I also ran into David the Geologist who didn’t recognise me with my beard. Given he’s only ever seen me once and that was in 2014, I’d be surprised if he recognised me at all. We discussed the components of the soil in the ‘natural’ and the possible (and logical) location of the soakaway. It was also a very informative meeting.

I also popped into the cottage. I was expecting the worst but, it was in excellent condition. I took the opportunity to empty the over stuffed letter box. After removing the various bits of recycling, there were a couple of letters demanding payment of a TV Licence and someone searching for our previous tenants (back in 2020). That was a relief.

All business attended to, I wandered back down to the Three Horseshoes where Mirinda had parked with the puppies, waiting for me.

The rest of the day was spent amending a Very Important Document (VID) and a plan that needed to be blue rather than red. Incidentally, the colour change was due to a lawyer not taking proper care of the wording in the VID.

Annoying and clearly not related to any builders.
