The National Garden Scheme is a charitable institution which sees private gardens opening to the public. All proceeds (entrance fees, plant sales, teas) go to various charities. It started in 1927 to raise money for community nurses and up till 2007 has raised over £40 million. For further information, visit their website (ngs.org.uk).
