Thanks to Tina's expert moulding, the clay around the opening is nice and smooth. The crucible has been filled and sits in the centre of some charcoal. The wire coming out of it all is to monitor the temperature. The log with the opening at the top is a specially designed charcoal grinder - when you pack the crucible with malachite, it's important to layer it with powdered charcoal.
