Occasionally I receive notification that the blog software needs updating to the latest version. I always put off installing the newest software because it’s all a bit involved and presents the opportunity to lose everything. However, I eventually sit down in front of my computer, gird my loins and go for it.
When it comes to starting the whole thing up again, there is always that little niggle scratching the back of my mind trying to remind me of something I’ve forgotten to do. Of course, I’ve never forgotten a step before (I follow a very detailed set of instructions provided by WordPress) and it always works but that doesn’t stop me worrying.
So, it was with great relief that I opened up the blog and everything was still there.
This took a bit of a slice out of my day along with a few more pages updated on the FATN website, which were not received with the enthusiasm I’ve come to expect.
An email from the technical director was waiting for me this evening, saying it looked a mess, wasn’t working and featured photographs of his recently deceased wife. I wrote back and told him to overwrite the new site with the old files and he could make do with it in whatever way he wanted.
I didn’t respond to the bit about his wife but it did make me think. Why does he want any photographs that feature his wife removed from the site? It’s not as if he didn’t like her. It was also the first I heard about it. Besides, I only met her a couple of times and would be hard pressed to pick her out in the small grainy images on the site. Mike, the publicity officer, never met her at all so for him the task would be impossible.
In the broader view, this is the sort of thing that discourages people from offering help on committees. It’s certainly made me wonder whether I should stop. I mean, the only reason I joined FATN was to read and, in hindsight, perhaps I should have left it at that. And perhaps I should just go back to doing that.
Eh?
I agree, the people who complain are the ones that don’t do anything dad and I had that all the time that’s why I told them what they could do with there committee . The sort that spoil it for everyone.
